braces versus smile direct club teens

What’s the difference between SmileDirectClub and braces?

Ready for straight teeth and your brightest smile yet? Congratulations – you’ve come to the right place! SmileDirectClub invisible aligners (often called clear braces) are an affordable, safe, and doctor-directed teeth straightening method – and they cost a full 60% less than metal braces. Now that’s something to smile about.

You’re probably researching all your teeth straightening options and wondering, What’s the difference between SmileDirectClub and braces? Why should I choose SmileDirectClub instead of traditional braces?

Braces correct more severe issues, including overbite, underbite, crossbite. Braces can also help treat jaw disorders.

Clear braces from SmileDirectClub work best for those with mild to moderate crowding or spacing issues. If you’re at least 12 years old and have all of your permanent teeth, SmileDirectClub could be for you! Take our FREE 30-second Smile Assessment to see if you’re a good candidate.

We know you’ll see that the choice is an easy one. Read on for a handy comparison of the two.

Getting started

The only way to get started with traditional braces is to schedule a visit to your local orthodontist office. But with SmileDirectClub, you can get started in one of two convenient ways, neither of which requires a doctor’s appointment.

Come in for a scan at one of our 50-plus SmileShops across the country. Your 30-minute visit is totally free. Yes, free! Our SmileShops are hip spaces, nothing like those stuffy dental offices you’re used to. You’ll witness our incredible 3D scanning technology firsthand as one of our friendly SmileGuides glides the iTero camera over your teeth, capturing 6000 photos per second that together create a 3D image of your teeth, which our licensed dental professionals will use to build your new smile.

Prefer to stay home? Purchase an impression kit for just $79 and take impressions of your teeth from the comfort of your home. Send those impressions back to us, and – like after you get a scan – we’ll send you a 3D preview of your smile plan and what your new, straight smile will look like. If we determine our aligners aren’t for you, we’ll refund your $79.

Comfort and cleaning

Metal braces are often painful and uncomfortable. Many times, braces also require the use of attachments, brackets, and rubber bands, making them more unsightly, uncomfortable, and difficult to clean. Brushing and flossing are difficult, and you’ll need to stay away from a whole host of foods – think corn on the cob, gum, caramel, popcorn, and even bagels – to protect the hardware. Braces wires can irritate your mouth and cheeks, too.

Invisible aligners from SmileDirectClub, on the other hand, are discreet and made of smooth and comfortable BPA-free plastic. They fit snugly over your teeth like a mouthguard, and they are completely removable. You can eat whatever you want and easily brush and floss your teeth. Cleaning your aligners is a cinch, too. With invisible aligners, your mouth and gums stay healthy, and your breath stays happy.

Length

Remember all those years you had braces as a kid? Getting braces as an adult works the same way. The average adult with braces has them on for 18 months to 3 years. Ouch.

But our smile plans range from 4 to 14 months in length, with many SmileDirectClub customers getting the smile they’ve always wanted in an average of 6 months. SmileDirectClub is affordable, convenient, comfortable, and doctor-directed. We know it shouldn’t cost a fortune to straighten your teeth and have a smile you’ll love!
